2 Children Airlifted after 18-Wheeler Accident on Katy Freeway in Houston

Children, 3 and 8, Critically Injured in Houston Crash on Katy Freeway near Greenhouse

Houston, Texas (July 31, 2019) – Two children were critically injured  Tuesday morning in a traffic accident in Houston, police said.

The crash happened at about  6:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 on the Katy Freeway near Greenhouse.

According to the police, a Dodge pickup truck was traveling on the Katy Freeway when its driver failed to control speed and crashed into a disabled car on the freeway.

The pickup then careened across the main lanes. Several other vehicles became involved in the collision.

The children, a 3-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were airlifted to a hospital by Memorial Hermann Life Flight. Others victims were taken by ground ambulance to hospitals or were treated at the crash site.

All westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for several hours following the crash. As of 12:40 p.m. the road was reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
