Two Hospitalized After Chico Train Accident near County Road 1540

Chico, Texas (April 18, 2023) – Two people were injured when two trains collided on Sunday night in Chico, Wise County.

Authorities said the wreck happened at about 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 16, near County Road 1540.

A Union Pacific train was traveling southbound when it hit an unoccupied train that was parked in a siding, according to the authorities. About 15-grain cars and three locomotives derailed after impact. Both trains were not transporting hazardous materials.

The locomotive engineer and conductor were both injured in the crash. One patient was taken to a Metroplex hospital, while another was transported to Wise Health System in Decatur.

The crash remains under investigation.
