Two Officers and Two Women Injured in Oak Cliff Two-Vehicle Crash at Interstate 35 and Marvin D. Love Freeway; Dominica Lopez Arrested

Dallas, Texas (May 14, 2020) – Two Dallas police officers and two women were injured early Thursday morning in a DUI crash in central Oak Cliff, according to police.

The crash happened just before 4:00 a.m. at southbound Interstate 35E, and the Marvin D. Love Freeway split.

Police said Dominica Lopez, 21, was driving southbound on Interstate 35E when she crashed into a marked police car.

The impact caused the police car to spin and hit the two officers who were outside their car. The officers were responding to another crash when they were hit.

Both officers were taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with minor injuries.

Two 21-year-old women who were in Lopez’s car were also taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. One of them has a broken nose, and the other had a broken arm.

Lopez was arrested on two charges of intoxication assault.

The police are investigating the crash.

We hope the injured victims recover quickly

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.

If you have been injured because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a  personal injury action against the drunk driver.
