53-Year-Old Man Killed in Houston Bicycle Crash on Fondren Road at Orem Drive

Houston, Texas (September 29, 2023) – A 53-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a bicycle accident in Houston, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 2:35 p.m., September 27, in the 13800 block of Fondren Road at the intersection of West Orem Drive.

Police said the man was riding his bicycle northbound on the sidewalk of Fondren Road when a black Ford F-250 pickup truck exited a private driveway and stopped at a red light at the intersection.

As the light turned green, both the bicyclist and the truck driver made a right turn onto West Orem, causing the truck to hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
