Abedessa Wanjalatan and Hussein Hassan Killed in Gonzales County Two-Vehicle Crash on Texas 97

Gonzales County, Texas (June 9, 2022) – Two people were killed, and another was critically injured Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Gonzales County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 11:12 a.m., on June 4, on Texas 97, about six miles east of Gonzales.

DPS said a 2021 Toyota RAV4 was traveling westbound on the highway when he veered into the eastbound lane and struck an eastbound 2001 Dodge Ram 1500.

The Toyota driver, 31-year-old Abedessa D. Wanjalatan of Lynnwood, Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hussein Bille Hassan, 32, of Kent, Washington, who was the front passenger in the Toyota, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The rear passenger in the Toyota was airlifted to South Austin Medical Center in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
