Abel Rangel Killed in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on Erskine Street

Lubbock, Texas (February 6, 2021) – Two people were killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Lubbock, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 11:20 a.m., February 4, in the 3100 block of Erskine Street.

Authorities said Susan Marie Gray, 69, was driving a BMW eastbound while Abel Rangel, 41, was driving a GMC also eastbound at a high rate of speed.

Gray slowed down and began making a left-hand turn into a driveway. The GMC attempted to pass the BMW on the left, ran a stop sign, and struck the BMW.

The impact pushed the BMW into a building, and the GMC crashed into a signal light pole.

Both Gray and Rangel were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
