Buna, Texas (August 4, 2020) – One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning between Kirbyville and Buna, according to DPS.

The crash happened shortly before 10:00 a.m., August 3, on U.S. Highway 96 at Cougar Country.

DPS said Marvin Carrell, 83, of Buna, was driving a 2020 Toyota SUV when he tried to turn into Cougar Country. He crossed the southbound lanes and was struck by a northbound 2020 Nissan passenger vehicle.

The impact caused the SUV to spin several times and overturn.

Carrell and the Nissan driver, James Prewitt, 72, of Call, were uninjured in the crash.

A passenger in the Nissan, Ronnie Davis, 60, of Call, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with unknown injuries.

Carrell was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

An investigation is ongoing.

We wish Ronnie Davis a quick recovery.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
