Aidan Kelley Killed in Smith County Three-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 31

Smith County, Texas (December 8, 2023) – One person was killed and four others were injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on December 4, on State Highway 31.

DPS said Cameron S. Reeves, 18, of Hawkins, was driving westbound while a second vehicle driven by Robert T. Pierzchalski, 67, of Henderson, and a third vehicle driven by Cory D. Threadgill, 40, of Gladewater, were traveling eastbound.

Reeves failed to drive in a single lane and collided with Pierzchalski’s vehicle. Reeves’ vehicle continued and Threadgill took evasive action to avoid colliding with Reeves’ vehicle. Threadgill struck a tree and Reeves’ car continued into the southern ditch and struck a tree as well.

Reeves’ passenger, Aidan R. Kelley, 20, of Chandler, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Reeves was taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Pierzchalski, Threadgill, and Threadgill’s passenger, Brandon D. Carpenter, 42, of Gladewater, were also taken to the hospital for non-incapacitating injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
