Alan Smarr Killed in Whitewright Motorcycle Crash on Highway 160

Whitewright, Texas (May 11, 2021) – A man was killed on Saturday in a motorcycle crash in Whitewright, according to the troopers.

The fatal accident happened on May 8, on Highway 160, two miles north of Trenton.

Troopers said Alan Smarr, 33, of Kingston, Oklahoma, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he attempted to pass a car and crashed head-on into a Ford Fiesta.

Smarr was taken to WNJ, where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Fiesta driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
