Bicyclist Hit, Injured by Vehicle at University Drive and Sugar Road in Edinburg

Cyclist Hospitalized after Edinburg Bicycle Accident at University Drive and Sugar Road

Edinburg, Texas (September 6, 2023) – A bicyclist was injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday morning in Edinburg, according to Edinburg police.

The crash happened at around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, in the area of University Drive and Sugar Road.

Police said the bicyclist was hit by a silver Chrysler 300, whose driver fled the scene.

The cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment with minor injuries.

Police were able to locate the suspect near Edinburg City Hall with the help of good Samaritans. The suspect, identified as Jose Espinoza, 66, was eventually arrested.

No further details about the crash were available.

The crash remains under investigation.
