Texarkana, Texas (October 8, 2020) – A bicyclist was seriously injured on Sunday in a hit-and-run crash in Texarkana, according to the police.

The accident happened shortly after noon, on October 4, in the 3800 block of Magnolia Street at West 38th Street.

Police said a 51-year-old Texarkana man was riding his motorized bicycle southbound on Magnolia Street when a red Honda 2-door car turned left from West 38th Street at a high rate of speed, crossed into the southbound lane of Magnolia Street and struck the bicycle.

The bicyclist was thrown into the windshield of the vehicle before rolling off it and onto the street.

The Honda driver, LaDonta Davis, 17, of Texarkana, fled the scene heading eastbound toward North State Line Avenue.

The red Honda 2-door car was located at an Arkansas apartment complex after the crash.

The bicyclist was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, including broken bones and numerous lacerations. He was later airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock.

Davis turned himself in to the police and was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury. He was booked into the Bi-State Jail. His bond was set at $75,000. Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to ten years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

An investigation is underway.

We wish the injured victim a quick recovery.

With the surge in popularity of alternate transportation to save on fuel costs, bicycling has emerged as a new form of mobility forced to compete with motorized traffic in dangerous situations. This has resulted in many more accidents between human-powered vehicles and powerful engine-driven machines, producing tragic injuries as well as countless fatalities.
