51-Year-Old Man Injured in Texarkana Bicycle Accident on Magnolia Street

Texarkana, Texas (October 7, 2020) – A bicyclist was seriously injured on Sunday in a hit-and-run crash in Texarkana, according to the police.

The accident happened shortly after noon, on October 4, in the 3800 block of Magnolia Street at West 38th Street.

Police said a 51-year-old Texarkana man was riding his motorized bicycle southbound on Magnolia Street when a red Honda turned left from West 38th Street at a high rate of speed, crossed into the southbound lane of Magnolia Street, and struck the bicycle.

The bicyclist was thrown into the windshield of the vehicle before rolling off it and onto the street.

The Honda driver fled the scene heading eastbound toward North State Line Avenue.

The bicyclist was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, including broken bones and numerous lacerations.

The authorities are looking for the suspect. The vehicle should have fresh damage on the driver’s side front, hood, and windshield.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the TTPD at 903-798-3316.

We wish the injured victim a quick recovery.

With the surge in popularity of alternate transportation to save on fuel costs, bicycling has emerged as a new form of mobility forced to compete with motorized traffic in dangerous situations. This has resulted in many more accidents between human-powered vehicles and powerful engine-driven machines, producing tragic injuries as well as countless fatalities.
