Brandy Leon Killed, Bryant Leon Injured in Orange Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10; Matthew Phoenix Arrested

Orange, Texas – One person was killed and another was injured Saturday evening in a fiery crash east of Orange, according to the troopers.

The fatal crash happened just before 6:00 p.m., March 2, on Interstate 10.

Troopers said a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, a 2018 Mazda, and a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 were traveling eastbound when the Mazda rear-ended the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet was then rear-ended again by the GMC, causing the Chevrolet to catch fire.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, Brandy Leon, 45, of Louisiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Bryant Leon, 48, of New Iberia, Louisiana was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, for treatment.

The GMC driver was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries.

The Mazda driver, Matthew Phoenix, 28, of Dallas, was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Manslaughter.

The crash closed the interstate for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
