Bruce Jernigan Jr., Killed in Hill County 18-Wheeler Crash on SH 174 near CR 1104

Hill County, Texas (March 17, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was killed in an 18-wheeler crash Monday morning in Hill County.

The fatal crash occurred around 11:30 a.m., March 15, on SH 174 near CR 1104, just west of Blum.

DPS said a truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling southbound when it swerved into the northbound lane to avoid rear-ending another truck tractor semi-trailer that was turning left onto CR 1104.

As the truck tractor semi-trailer tried to return to the southbound lane, it crashed into a northbound Chevrolet driven by 38-year-old Bruce Jernigan Jr. of Kopperl.

Jernigan Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Commercial trucks are known to cause over 90% of accidents in Houston. These truck drivers must understand that their actions majorly contribute to most of the accidents on the roads. It is also important for others on the same roads with the truck drivers to understand that maximum precaution should be taken while driving near trucks. While small mistakes like ignoring the turn signal prior to turning may cause accidents, major causes of these accidents are rooted in other factors like exhaustion on the part of truck drivers. If the reasons for the crash are anchored to the failure of following the right turn or driving at a speed that is not legally recommended, a wrongful death lawyer will be useful in such scenarios.

If you have lost a loved one in an accident with a huge truck, it is advisable to get a lawyer who will facilitate the process of compensation.
