Candy Trammell Injured in DUI Crash on Summerhill at New Boston Road in Texarkana

29-Year-Old Candy Trammell Injured in Texarkana Two-Vehicle Crash at Summerhill and New Boston Road

Texarkana, Texas (May 3, 2020) – According to police, two people were injured, and a man was arrested Friday night following a suspected DUI crash in Texarkana.

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. May 1, at the intersection of Summerhill and New Boston Road.

Police said Kendrick Sauls, 22, was driving a 2008 Dodge pickup northbound on Summerhill at a high rate of speed while Candy Trammell, 29, was driving a silver Hyundai Santa Fe westbound on New Boston Road.

Sauls then ran a red light at the intersection and hit the Hyundai.

Witnesses said Sauls had been driving erratically before the crash.

Trammell and her 36-year-old passenger were taken to a local hospital with major injuries.

Sauls was taken to Saint Michael hospital for a blood draw. He was then arrested for two counts of intoxication assault and was being held at the Bi-State Jail.

The police are investigating the crash.

We wish Candy Trammell a quick recovery.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.

If you have been injured because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a  personal injury action against the drunk driver.
