Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department Chief Curtis Brown, Firefighter Brendan Torres Killed in Dallam County Crash on U.S. 54 near Dalhart

Dallam County, Texas (October 5, 2022) – Authorities have identified the two members of the Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department who were killed on Tuesday night following a head-on crash in Dallam County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two Dalhart firefighters, Fire Chief Curtis Brown and Firefighter Brendan Torres, died in the crash that happened at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, on U.S. 54, northeast of Dalhart.

DPS said a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling northeast on U.S. 54 while a Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department Chevrolet Tahoe, occupied by the two Dalhart firefighters, was traveling southwest.

The truck tractor driver tried to pass an unknown vehicle and collided head-on with the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The two Dalhart firefighters were killed in the crash. The truck tractor driver was transported to a hospital in Dalhart in unknown condition.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
