Baird, Texas – Three teenagers were killed and another teenager was injured early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Baird, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 2:10 a.m., on May 5, at the intersection of Peyton Street and West 3rd Street.

DPS said Ashlie Haynes, 35, of Clyde, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup westbound on West 3rd Street approaching Peyton Street. James May, 19, from Baird, was driving a 2008 Kia Spectra southbound on Peyton Street and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection. May failed to yield the right of way and the Kia collided with the Silverado which was proceeding to head southbound into the intersection.

Three passengers were ejected from the Kia and were all pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Layni Potter, 18, of Baird, Madi Buchanan, 18, of Baird, and a 16-year-old from Baird. A fourth passenger, Dakota Kitchens, 19, of Baird, was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in stable condition. No one in the Kia was wearing a seatbelt.

Haynes agreed to take a breathalyzer test and scored higher than the legal limit, 0.08. She was booked into the Callahan County Jail for DWI. Additional charges might be filed based on the outcome of the final investigation.
