Darrin McMichael Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 20 in Dallas County

Dallas County, Texas (September 21, 2023) – Authorities have identified the police officer who died after he was struck by a hit-and-run motorist on Thursday morning in Arlington as 24-year veteran Darrin McMichael. He was a member of the Arlington Police Department’s Motorcycle Unit, where he had served for the last 13 years. He also served as a patrol officer and detective in the North Patrol District during his career with the Arlington Police Department.

The tragic accident happened at around 6:10 a.m. on Interstate 20 near St. Augustine Drive, near Interstate 20 and Dowdy Ferry Road.

Authorities said McMichael was riding a motorcycle on Interstate 20 when he failed to slow for slowing cars in front of him and crashed into an SUV.

After hitting the SUV, McMichael fell off his bike and was struck by a dark-colored Dodge or Chrysler-type vehicle, whose driver fled the scene.

McMichael was taken to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.
