Datyrik Sheppard Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 385 in Hockley County

Hockley County, Texas – One person was killed and another was injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision in Hockley County, about 4 miles north of Whitharral, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 9:00 a.m., on April 17, on North Highway 385 near East FM 597.

DPS said a semi-truck was traveling northbound on the highway while Elaine Maribel Martinez, 19, from Sudan, was driving a Nissan Versa southbound.

The semi-truck drifted into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with Martinez’s vehicle.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 38-year-old Datyrik Terell Sheppard of Lubbock, was treated for minor injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
