Denise Sumbling Killed in San Marcos Pedestrian Accident near Highway 123 and East Access Road; Daniel Verdin Arrested

San Marcos, Texas (May 31, 2023) – A 51-year-old woman was killed on May 17 in a hit-and-run accident in San Marcos, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 9:45 p.m., near the intersection of Highway 123 and East Access Road.

Police said Denise Sumbling, 51, was walking to work when she was hit by a pickup truck near the intersection.

The driver of the pickup truck, Daniel Verdin, 66, fled the scene after the accident.

Sumbling was pronounced dead at the scene.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office stopped Verdin’s vehicle for speeding, and he was arrested on second-degree felony charges.

The San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
