Bicyclist Hit, Killed by Vehicle on Katy Freeway in Houston

Male Bicyclist Killed in Houston Crash on Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10)

Houston, Texas (July 5, 2022) – A male cyclist died after he was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal crash happened at around 1:20 p.m. Monday, July 4, in the 10800 block of Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10).

Police said the victim was riding his bicycle eastbound in one of the main lanes of the freeway when, for an unknown reason, he was hit by a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee that was changing lanes.

The impact pushed the bicyclist into the Katy Freeway toll road lanes.

The bicyclist, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was declared dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver of the Jeep stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. He was not impaired at the time of the accident, police said.

No other details about the crash were immediately provided. The accident remains under investigation.
