Deputy Injured in Uvalde County Three-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 90 near Knippa

Uvalde County, Texas (July 5, 2020) – A Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday night east of Knippa, according to authorities.

The crash occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on July 2, on U.S. Highway 90.

Deputies said a Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit with a deputy inside was blocking traffic for a Freightliner 18-wheeler, which had broken down half on the shoulder and half in the road.

The driver of an SUV, which was traveling at least 70 mph, tried to swerve but struck the left rear of the UCSO vehicle. The SUV then spun and struck the back of the 18-wheeler.

The impact pushed the patrol unit almost 20 yards up the road, and it was totaled.

Both the deputy and the 18-wheeler had flashing lights to warn motorists.

The deputy, who was wearing his seatbelt, was taken to Uvalde Memorial Hospital as a precaution. He was sore and had some lacerations and bruising on his left side.

No other injuries were reported.

The SUV driver, a Uvalde resident, was released at the scene.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

We wish the injured victim a quick recovery.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
