Derry D. Chism ID’d as Man Killed in Interstate 30 Crash near Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant, Texas (March 26, 2019) – The man who was killed Monday afternoon in a traffic accident near Mt. Pleasant has been identified as Derry D. Chism, 46, of Peoria, Illinois, according to authorities.
The deadly wreck took place shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 25 on Interstate 30.
Authorities said Chism was driving a Lexus GX470 on Interstate 30 westbound when his vehicle veered off the road and rear-ended a semi-trailer that was towed by a Freightliner truck-tractor, which was stopped on the shoulder of the interstate.
The force of the impact caused the Lexus GX470 to roll over several times and ejected Chism, who was not wearing a seatbelt.
Chism was declared dead at the scene. His body was transported to a local funeral home in Mt. Pleasant.
The driver of the truck-tractor, Joshua Allan Beach, 30, of Sulphur Springs, was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
