Henderson County, Texas – Three people were killed and three others were injured Thursday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Henderson County near Berryville, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just before 5:00 p.m., April 18, on State Highway 155.

DPS said Douglas Norwood, 84, of LaRue, was pulling out of a private drive onto the highway in his 2016 Ford Fusion when he failed to yield the right of way to Srikar Mapakshi, 42, of Houston, who was driving a 2014 Honda Accord. This caused the Honda to hit the Ford. The force of the impact caused the Fusion to cross over into the southbound lane where it was struck by a 2018 Hyundai Elantra driven by Cassandra Tait, 33, of Palestine.

Norwood and his passenger, Janet Norwood, 78, of LaRue were pronounced dead at the scene.

Carol Mitchell, 71, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, who was a passenger in the Hyundai was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Mapakshi, Tait, and Tait’s second passenger, Lisa Crawford, 54, of Palestine, were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
