Perla Vasquez Killed and Two Injured in El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash on I-10 East at Porfirio Diaz

El Paso, Texas – One person was killed and two others were injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash in El Paso, according to officials.

The fatal crash happened just after 7:30 p.m., December 16, on Interstate 10 at Porfirio Diaz.

Officials said a Dodge Charger was traveling on the interstate and got a flat tire. The driver of the Charger pulled over on the center median and out of traffic. A total of five people were in the vehicle.

One of the individuals was changing the flat tire while the others were trying to warn oncoming traffic to slow down.

The driver of a 2010 Acura saw the individuals and also warned traffic to slow down and that is when a Ford Mustang, which was also traveling in the same lane as the Acura, swerved left and entered the center median to avoid the Acura. The driver behind the Mustang ended up striking the Charger and three individuals.

The Mustang then re-entered traffic and struck another vehicle.

The driver of the Mustang continued eastbound on I-10 and eventually stopped on the right-hand shoulder by the Porfirio Diaz overpass before fleeing the scene on foot.

Perla Vasquez, 38, of Clint was killed in the crash. A GoFundMe has been created to help with the funeral expenses.

Two other people sustained severe leg injuries and were transported to UMC for treatment. They have been identified as Saul Sigala Jr. and Donovan Sigala.

The crash closed all the eastbound lanes on I-10.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
