Edinburg, Texas – One person was killed and five others were injured Saturday evening in a hit-and-run accident east of Edinburg, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:34 p.m., April 20, on FM 1925 near Uresti Road.

DPS said a silver Chevrolet Malibu, occupied by two men, was traveling eastbound on the highway when the driver lost control, veered into the westbound lanes, and crashed into a mailbox and fence.

A black Tahoe, occupied by a male driver, and three female passengers, was traveling westbound on the highway and stopped after the driver saw the Malibu lose control.

A white Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling eastbound behind the Malibu swerved to avoid colliding with it, lost control, and sideswiped the Tahoe.

The Malibu driver fled the scene on foot. A passenger, 49-year-old Edgar Ivan Garcia of Edinburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four occupants of the Tahoe and the Camaro driver were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The authorities are looking for the Malibu driver. DPS is asking those with any information on his whereabouts to contact the Weslaco office at (956)-565-7600.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
