Elva Gonzalez and Ricardo Canchola Killed in Bertram Two-Vehicle Crash on Texas 29

Bertram, Texas (March 1, 2022) – Two people were killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision, about 2 miles east of Bertram, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just after 2:00 p.m., February 26, on Texas 29.

DPS said a 1995 GMC pickup truck was traveling westbound on the highway when it drove onto the wrong side of the road and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2019 Ford F-250 pickup towing a trailer.

One person in the GMC, 38-year-old Elva Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person, 40-year-old Ricardo Canchola, was taken to Ascension Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock, where he was pronounced dead. A 4-year-old boy was taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas for treatment.

The Ford driver was taken to Ascension Seton Highland Lakes in Burnet for treatment.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with Gonzalez’s and Canchola’s funeral and additional expenses.

The road condition was wet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
