Fungisai Banda and Jacob Frogge ID’d as 2 People Killed in Gray County Crash on Interstate 40 near McLean
Gray County, Texas (May 7, 2019) – The two people who were killed early Monday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Gray County have been identified as Fungisai Banda, 33, of Bentonville, Arkansas and Jacob Frogge, 18, of Owasso, Oklahoma, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly three-car crash occurred at around 1:00 a.m. Monday, May 6 on Interstate 40, approximately two miles west of McLean.
The DPS said Justin Khashan, 28, of Amarillo, was driving a 2013 Freightliner truck tractor hauling a semi-trailer eastbound on Interstate 40 when he saw a single headlight heading westbound in the eastbound lane towards him.
Khashan then pulled onto the shoulder to avoid a 2008 Toyota Camry, driven by Collin Lovelace, 18, of Owasso, Oklahoma.
A 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, operated by Fungisai Banda, 33, of Bentonville, Arkansas was also heading eastbound on Interstate 40 and tried to pass Khashan when it collided head-on with the Camry in the left lane.
The force of the impact sent the Mountaineer into the path of the Freightliner truck, which struck the side of the drive. The semi and the Camry stopped in the median while the Mountaineer came to a stop in the left lane of the interstate.
Banda and a passenger in the Camry, Frogge, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Lovelace sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an Amarillo hospital in critical condition.  A 2-year-old, of Bentonville, Arkansas, who was a passenger in the Mountaineer, was transported to Pampa Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
