Gabriel Coronado and Braden Jones Killed in Kilgore Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 349 and U.S. 259

Kilgore, Texas (January 17, 2020) – Two teenagers were killed, and two others were injured Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash in Kilgore, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash occurred just before midnight, January 16, at the intersection of FM 349 and U.S. 259 Business.

DPS said Gabriel Coronado, 17, of Longview, was driving a 2004 Nissan Altima when officers stopped him for a traffic violation while he was heading westbound on IH-20. Coronado evaded the officers, exited the interstate on FM-2087, and continued heading southbound to FM-349.

Coronado then traveled westbound on FM 349, where he ran a red light at the intersection of US 259 and hit an 18-wheeler driven by Michael James Wright, 49 of Hallettsville.

Coronado was declared dead at the scene.

Braden Jones, 17, of Kilgore, who was in the Altima, was taken to Good Shepard Medical Center, where he later died.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year old girl, who were also riding in the Altima, were taken to Good Shepard Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
