Gaines County Sheriff’s Office Jailer Injured in Martin County Four-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 349

Martin County, Texas (November 9, 2023) – A Gaines County Sheriff’s Office jailer was injured Thursday morning in a four-vehicle crash in Martin County, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 7:00 a.m., on State Highway 349, about five miles north of Midland.

DPS said a flatbed truck was heading northbound on the highway and was turning left when it crashed into a Toyota pickup truck.

The flatbed was carrying tools and equipment, which were strewn out across the roadway after the initial collision. A northbound semi-truck struck some of the debris, causing a tire blowout. The semi-truck then veered into the southbound lanes where it was struck by a Gaines County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

A jailer, who was driving the sheriff’s office vehicle, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

No other information was available.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
