Lufkin, Texas (June 21, 2020) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Lufkin, according to police.

The deadly crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. June 19, on Pershing Avenue at Bynum Street.

Police said the driver of a Dodge pickup truck was driving recklessly at about 100 mph on Old Union Road, and he continued onto Pershing Avenue. He didn’t stop at the Bynum Street intersection and rear-ended a Kia Sorento. A Mitsubishi Outlander was also hit in the crash.

The Dodge driver, Darrel Trent Williams, 47, of Lufkin, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Two people in the Sorento, Gale Sibley, and Betty Phillips were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neva Smith, who was also in the Kia, was uninjured in the crash.

The Mitsubishi driver, Carlos Gonzalez, was also uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope Gale Sibley and Betty Phillips recover quickly.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.
