Baytown, Texas (May 23, 2019) – A 4-year-old girl was killed and two other people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a traffic collision in Baytown, authorities said.
The fatal crash took place at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22 on Interstate 10 East near Crosby Lynchburg Road.
According to the authorities, a car and an 18-wheeler were both heading eastbound on Interstate 10 East when the truck stopped for slowing traffic.  As the truck tried to slow down, it slid into the second lane, where the car was traveling.
The truck then collided with the car. The force of the impact pushed the car into the guard rail, causing it to fall and land below on the embankment.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated the girl’s father, 35, who was trapped inside the car. The father was then airlifted to a hospital with major injuries. The girl’s mother, 24, was okay and was also taken by authorities to the hospital so she could be with her husband.
The 4-year-old girl was found underneath the car. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the 18-wheeler stopped at the scene and complied with investigators.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
