Jefferson County, Texas (August 4, 2022) – The driver who was killed Wednesday morning in a crash with an 18-wheeler in Jefferson County has been identified as 74-year-old Herman Toney of Houston, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened around 6:45 a.m., on Interstate 10, just east of the FM 365 exit, west of Beaumont.

DPS said a 2005 Chevrolet SUV was traveling westbound in the inside lane of the interstate when it made an unsafe lane change and struck a 2014 Mack Truck tractor driven by a 45-year-old Georgia man.

The SUV then left the roadway and drove into a ditch, where it struck a guardrail and flipped.

The SUV driver, Toney, was killed in the crash.

No other information was available.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
