Ismael Duran Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on US 57 in Zavala County

Ismael Duran Killed in Zavala County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 57

Zavala County, Texas (February 18, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Zavala County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:10 a.m., February 14, on U.S. Highway 57, one mile west of Batesville.

DPS said a 2013 Mazda 3 was traveling eastbound while a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado truck was traveling westbound.

The Mazda driver failed to maintain his lane, drove onto the westbound lane, and collided with the Chevrolet.

The Mazda driver was ejected from the vehicle, which then caught fire.

The Mazda driver, Ismael Duran, 43, of Quemado, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevrolet driver was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
