Jacob Byrd Killed in NW Austin Multi-Vehicle Crash on FM 620

Austin, Texas (September 1, 2020) – The man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in northwest Austin has been identified as 26-year-old Jacob Byrd, according to police.

The deadly accident happened around 7:00 a.m., August 26, in the 7600 block of FM 620 near the Vandegrift High School.

Police said Byrd was attempting to turn left onto the highway from the Tintara apartments when his 2008 Honda Accord collided with a northbound white 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

Byrd was ejected from his car following the impact.

The driver of a white or silver SUV slammed on her brakes to avoid hitting Byrd.

The SUV was then hit by a black 2020 Acura Integra, which was then rear-ended by a silver 2010 Toyota Tacoma.

Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV driver got out of her vehicle to check on the Integra driver before fleeing the scene. She was described as a white female, estimated to be in her mid-40s with short blonde or grey hair and a thin build. The SUV has damage to the backside.

The police are looking for the woman.

An investigation into the crash is underway. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-6873.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jacob Byrd.

Who May Make a Wrongful Death Claim in Texas?

A wrongful death claim for a family member may be brought by spouses, children, or parents. The State of Texas also allows the estate of the deceased to bring a survival action to recover for past medical expenses and conscious pain and suffering, as well as other non-economic damages which the deceased may have suffered before death. Texas does not permit brothers, sisters, cousins, or grandparents to assert any claims for the death of a family member.

Wrongful death claims require an attorney who understands the complexity of the damages caused by a significant loss. The lawyer representing the client has the responsibility to hire the necessary experts to help prove the case.
