Jacqueline Sheffield Killed and Charles Bullard Injured in NE El Paso Bus Crash on U.S. Highway 54

El Paso, Texas (December 14, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured Saturday night in a bus crash in northeast El Paso, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 7:35 p.m., December 11, on U.S. Highway 54 (Patriot Highway) near Fred Wilson (exit 23).

Police said 52-year-old Guadalupe Alonso Maciel was driving a 2017 passenger bus and was looking down at his cell phone when he struck a 1996 Chevy S-10 pickup truck that was stalled in the second lane of the highway.

The bus belonged to Los Paisanos Autobuses and was headed for Kansas City.

The Chevy had emergency flashers on at the time of the crash.

51-year-old Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Yvette Sheffield of Northeast El Paso, who was a passenger in the Chevy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevy driver, Charles Edward Bullard, 57, of Northeast El Paso, was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Maciel was arrested and charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault. His bond was set at $275,000.

The crash remains under investigation.
