James Coates Killed, Michael Meyers Injured in Crash on U.S. 81/2887 near Alvord

James Coates Killed and Michael Meyers Injured in Alvord Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 81/2887 near County Road 2898

Alvord, Texas (May 21, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was injured early Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Alvord, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:09 a.m., May 17, on U.S. 81/2887 near County Road 2898.

DPS said James Charles Coates, 51, Bowie, was driving a 2013 Honda Fit and was disabled and partially occupying the outside northbound lane of the highway. Michael Jeffrey Meyers, 28, Fort Worth, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu northbound when he crashed into the Honda.

Coates was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meyers was taken to Wise Health System in Decatur in stable condition.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
