James Corbin Killed in Smith County Motorcycle Crash on SH 155 at I-20

Smith County, Texas (April 16, 2022) – The 77-year-old man who was killed on March 31 in a motorcycle crash in Smith County has been identified as James Corbin of Gilmer, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly crash happened around 3:42 p.m., at the intersection of State Highway 155 and Interstate 20, about three miles south of Winona.

DPS said Corbin was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound on SH 155 while Ramiro Rodriguez, 56, of Longview, was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram pickup eastbound on the I-20 service road.

Rodriguez failed to yield the right of way at the intersection, and the Dodge was hit on its side by Corbin’s motorcycle.

Corbin was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
