One Killed and Four Seriously Injured in SE Austin Two-Vehicle Crash at U.S. 183 and Maha Loop Road

Austin, Texas (June 28, 2023) – One person was killed, and four others were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in southeast Austin, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 4:09 p.m., June 27, at the intersection of U.S. 183 Highway and Maha Loop Road, northeast of Creedmoor.

Police said a vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed the yellow line and crashed head-on into a northbound vehicle.

The male driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, was taken to South Austin Medical Center in critical condition. Her two adolescent children were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center with potentially serious injuries. Her young child was also taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The crash closed US 183.

The crash remains under investigation.
