James Dewbre Killed, Andrew Mitchell and Joseph McBrannon Injured in Hockley County Two-Vehicle Crash at US 385 and American Road

Hockley County, Texas (December 5, 2023) – One person was killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Hockley County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 12:20 p.m., December 4, at the intersection of US Highway 385 and American Road, just north of Levelland.

DPS said a Jeep driven by 21-year-old Andrew Mitchell of Levelland was heading eastbound on American Road approaching the intersection when it failed to stop and crashed into a northbound pickup truck driven by 50-year-old James Michael Dewbre of Littlefield.

Dewbre was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Mitchell and his passenger, 25-year-old Joseph McBrannon, also from Levelland, were taken to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
