San Antonio, Texas (January 14, 2020) – Two people were killed, and two children were injured in a hit-and-run crash early New Year’s Day in San Antonio, according to a local news source.

The fatal crash occurred just before 12:30 a.m. January 1, on West Poplar and NW 26th Street.

Police said a minivan, occupied by four people, was backing out of a driveway when it was hit by a speeding pickup truck, which then took out a utility pole and some power lines, knocking out the power in the nearby homes.

The impact caused the minivan to burst into flames. Jesus Aguilar Jr., 31, who was driving the van, was ejected out of the fiery vehicle. His three children were trapped inside.

Aguilar was killed in the crash.

Her daughter, Kristina Aileen Spohn, 14, was also killed in the crash.

The other two children, a 5-year-old boy, and a 1-year-old girl were taken to University Hospital with second-degree burns.

Two people in the truck fled the scene. The driver, Cesar Eduardo Gonzalez, 18, was later arrested.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.

The police are investigating the crash.
