John Powell Struck, Killed by Semi-Truck on U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman

John Powell Killed in Sherman Pedestrian Accident on U.S. Highway 75 near FM 691

Sherman, Texas (July 21, 2020) – The man who was fatally hit by a semi-truck Saturday night in Sherman has been identified as 38-year-old John Powell, according to authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 11:30 p.m., July 18, on U.S. Highway 75 near FM 691.

Police said a truck pulling a trainer with a Conex box was traveling northbound on the highway when it was rear-ended by a car.

The impact caused the car to catch fire, and two men pulled over to help.

One of the men, Powell, saw a semi-truck coming toward them, and he pushed the other man out of the way.

Powell was then struck by the semi-truck, and he was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the car that caught fire was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Powell’s family. Powel was a pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church in New Caney, near Houston.

The crash closed the highway.

The police are investigating the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
