Jose Amezquita Killed in Dallas Two-Vehicle Crash on Ferguson Road at Joaquin Drive

Dallas, Texas (March 13, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in far East Dallas, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 12:30 a.m., March 6, at the intersection of Joaquin Drive and Ferguson Road.

Authorities said a Chevy Tahoe crashed into the driver’s side door of a Ford F-150 at the intersection.

The impact caused the truck to leave the road, and it ended up in someone’s yard while the Tahoe crossed the median and entered into a residential front yard, where it came to a stop after crashing into the house.

The Ford driver, Jose Amezquita, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. To donate, please click here.

There were four passengers in the Tahoe at the time of the crash. A 10-year-old child was taken to the hospital with a broken arm.

The Tahoe driver, Francisco Loredo, was taken to a local hospital with a head laceration. He has been taken to jail and is facing several charges, including intoxicated assault and manslaughter. His bond was set at $200,000

The authorities are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
