Juan Perez-Hernandez Killed in Collingsworth County Bicycle Accident on FM 3197

Collingsworth County, Texas (October 10, 2023) – A bicyclist was killed Sunday evening in a crash in Collingsworth County, one mile east of Wellington, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:20 p.m., October 8, on FM 3197.

DPS said a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by a 16-year-old female from Shamrock was traveling westbound when it rear-ended Juan Perez-Hernandez, 27, of Wellington, who was riding his bicycle westbound.

Perez-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bicycle had reflectors and lights illuminating from the front and the rear. The Nissan driver was unlicensed and released to a family member at the scene. She was uninjured in the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
