Kerrie Laverne Qualls Killed in Nacogdoches Pedestrian Accident on Park Street; Jimmy Dewayne Watts Jr. and Christopher Tyrone Session Arrested

Nacogdoches, Texas (January 12, 2020) – Two men are facing charges for racing in a New Year’s Eve crash that killed a Lufkin woman in Nacogdoches, according to a local news source.

The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on December 31, on Park Street near Crisp Road.

As per the report, Kerrie Laverne Qualls, 44, of Lufkin, was recording the race between Jimmy Dewayne Watts Jr., 32, and Christopher Tyrone Session, 21, on Park Street when she was hit by Watts who was driving a Chrysler 200 at about 110 mph.

Session left the scene in his red 2016 Hyundai Accent after witnessing the accident.

Qualls was declared dead at the scene.

Both Watts and Session face a second-degree felony charge of racing on the highway, causing serious bodily injury. The second-degree felony charge carries a potential punishment range of between two and 20 years incarceration and up to $10,000 in fines.

The crash remains under investigation.
