Taylor County, Texas (October 4, 2022) – One person was killed and another was injured Sunday evening in a fiery two-vehicle crash in Taylor County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on October 2, on US Highway 84, just half a mile north of Lawn.

DPS said Juan Lucio Torres, 75, of Lawn, was stopped in the inside southbound lane of the highway without lights activated on his pickup truck. Brittany Amber Esquivel of Pflugerville was driving southbound in the inside lane approaching Torres’ truck. Esquivel did not see the Torres’ truck and rear-ended it.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. Esquivel was taken to Hendrick Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
