Kalani Senegal Killed, Chassity Gantt, Katanni Senegal, and Kanise Starks Injured in Canton Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20

Canton, Texas (January 18, 2022) – A one-year-old girl was killed, and three other people, including another infant, were injured on Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in Canton, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just after 12:30 p.m., on January 12, on Interstate 20.

DPS said a semi-truck towing a trailer was traveling westbound in the outside lane of the interstate behind a Ford Escape.

The semi-truck driver failed to slow down and rear-ended the Escape.

A one-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl in the Escape, both from Fresno, were airlifted to Cook Children’s Hospital in Dallas, where the one-year-old later died on January 14. She has been identified as Kalani Senegal. The 2-year-old has been identified as Kanise Starks.

The Escape driver, Chassity Gantt, 22, of San Francisco, was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

Another passenger in the Escape, Katanni C. Senegal, 22, of Fresno, was taken to a hospital in Tyler with multiple injuries, including a broken pelvis. She is the mother of Kalani and Kanise.

The 18-wheeler driver, Robert Stanley, 55, of Giddings, was uninjured in the crash.
