Lauro Escobar Killed in Sherman County Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Highway 287; Cody Lane Rinne Arrested

Sherman County, Texas (September 17, 2020) – The driver who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left one person dead in July in Sherman County near Stratford has turned himself in, according to the deputies.

Cody Lane Rinne, 17, of Stratford, turned himself in on September 19.

The deadly accident happened at about 12:30 a.m., July 25, on Highway 287.

DPS said Lauro Escobar, 35, of Sunray, had parked his Dodge Ram on the northbound shoulder of the highway and was attempting to change a flat tire when Rinne failed to maintain a single lane and hit him.

Rinne fled the scene after the crash.

Escobar was declared dead at the scene.

Rinne has been charged with failure to stop to render aid and tampering with evidence.
