Louise Ortiz and Jose Ortiz-Hernandez Killed, Nicole Howard Injured in Ector County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1936 at SH 302

Ector County, Texas – Two people were killed and another was injured last month in a two-vehicle crash in Ector County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:43 p.m., January 24, at the intersection of FM 1936 and SH 302.

DPS said 23-year-old Nicole Elizabeth Howard was driving northbound on FM 1936 while 79-year-old Louise Ortiz was driving her truck westbound on SH 302.

Howard failed to yield the right of way at the yield sign at the intersection and crashed into the truck.

Howard was taken to Medical Center Hospital with minor injuries.

Ortiz was taken to MCH-Odessa where she died on January 31. Her passenger, 83-year-old Jose Ortiz-Hernandez, was taken to UMC-Lubbock where he died on January 27.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
