Madison Halie Karner and Juan Soliz Garcia Injured in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 84 near CR 7500

Lubbock, Texas (October 3, 2020) – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lubbock, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just after 1:00 p.m., October 1, on Highway 84 near County Road 7500, near Slaton.

DPS said Thomas Henry Erskine Jr, 18, of Templeton, California, was driving a pickup truck southeast on the highway while Berta Arispe, 59, of Colorado City, was driving a Tahoe northwest.

Erskine came upon a construction vehicle that was directing traffic over to the right lane for a construction company, and he took evasive action by steering hard to the left to avoid other vehicles.

The pickup went through the median and collided with the SUV.

Eliova Franco Arispe, 89, of Colorado City, who was the front-right passenger in the SUV, was killed in the crash.

Another passenger, Madison Halie Karner, 22, of Sweetwater, was taken to University Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Juan Soliz Garcia, 59, of Fort Worth, who was also a passenger in one of the vehicles, was ejected and was taken to UMC for treatment.

Erskine was not seriously injured in the crash.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

We hope Madison Halie Karner and Juan Soliz Garcia recover quickly.
